Create an Amazon afilliate link with a bookmarklet

I saw a number of posts about the new app called “Associate” that makes it really easy to create affiliate links on iOS. It’s a great app. If it fits into your workflow, I recommend it.

If you’re looking for something very simple for your desktop, I’ve been using a bookmarklet in my browser for a number of years. Here’s how to set it up:

First copy the code below:

javascript:(function()%7Bvar%20aff%20=%20'bgsco-20';%20if%20(!document.getElementById(‘ASIN’))%20%7Balert(‘Can%5C’t%20find%20the%20product%20ID’);%20return;%7D%20prompt(‘here%20is%20the%20link:’,’http://amzn.com/'%20+%20document.getElementById('ASIN').value%20+%20'?tag='%20+%20aff);%7D)()

Next change the “bgsco-20” to your own affiliate code.

Lastly, create a new bookmark in your favorite browser and use that code as the link. If you have those bookmarks set to sync to iOS, this will work in Mobile Safari as well.

Now, whenever you are viewing an item on Amazon, you can hit that bookmarklet and it will return a shortened, affiliated, clean link right to that product that you can copy and paste anywhere. (Below is one I created for Cool Orange Goody’s Powder, the best headcahe medicine around.)
